Some Everton fans on social media are far from happy with Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to substitute Alex Iwobi off against Newcastle United.
The Nigerian was taken off for Andre Gomes at half-time, and it’s fair to say that things went downhill from that point.
It’s hard to place the blame entirely on this substitution, after all, Everton were largely poor throughout the squad in the second half, but taking Iwobi off did take a bit of dynamism away from the Toffees’ attack.
Gomes struggled to really create anything during the game, and while Iwobi wasn’t at his very best in the first half, he is a player who can make something out of nothing.
Everton supporters have very rarely had any issues with Carlo Ancelotti during his tenure at Goodison Park, but today they didn’t agree with his decision to take Iwobi off.
Indeed, one look at social media told you all you needed to know about what the fans thought of this switch, and as the second half went on, more and more fans were sounding their displeasure.
The reactions ranged from sarcastic to confused, but the overall mood amongst the fanbase was certainly negative.
