Alan Shearer told Premier League Productions that Emile Smith-Rowe is a ‘breath of fresh air’ for Arsenal after they beat Newcastle 3-0 on Monday night.

The former striker lauded Smith-Rowe’s ‘attitude’ and ‘approach’ to games, as he assisted and was a standout performer last night for this recently rejuvenated Arsenal side.

Arsenal have been trying to find that spark, that player that can bring that creative X-factor to the side and they have one in their Croydon-born player.

Shearer was seriously impressed with the Arsenal academy product, who has played a big part in Mikel Arteta’s men recent run of form.

“We mentioned Mesut Ozil and how a relief it would be that he’s now left the football club because of the salary and the manager having to answer questions every single week about him not being in the squad,” said Shearer.

“This guy [Smith-Rowe] is a breath of fresh air. His attitude. The way he approaches the game. The way he wants to work. His ability with and without the ball.

“So, I think it’s been a huge step forward for not only him. But it’s no coincidence that Arsenal’s form is where it is when he has been in the team.”

After a summer of transfer links with playmakers across Europe, Arsenal have a player in their academy who is showing them that they don’t need to spend big bucks on that player.

Willian was purchased in the summer to provide that spark for the Gunners in the final third, but he has been embarrassed by how the Arsenal youngsters are well and truly outshining him.

Patience is now required from Arsenal because there will still be some down moments and those in North London will be hoping that they can get into this titanic fight for European places.
