Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Tim Sherwood has been discussing Harry Kane and the fact that he’s broken Jimmy Greaves’ all-time Tottenham scoring record.

Kane is now the club’s record goalscorer, and he has cemented himself in Spurs folklore forevermore by breaking Greaves’ record.

While many have celebrated this marvellous achievement, Sherwood reckons it may be cause for concern, questioning what else Kane has left to achieve at Spurs after reaching the ultimate goalscoring milestone at the north London club.

What’s left for Kane?

Sherwood discussed Kane and his motivation after breaking this record.

“He’s down to a year left of his contract at the end of the season and he has a big decision to make. All of these players in the league are going to be rich when they finish playing, but when you start playing football it’s a team sport so you want to win,” Sherwood said.

“He’s won three Golden Boots already. He’s been the top scorer at the World Cup and he’s beaten Jimmy Greaves’ record at Tottenham, which is a little bit of a worry for the Tottenham fans because what else does he have to achieve there now? He loves the club and he wants to win at the club.”

Done all he can

Sherwood is right, Kane may well look at his time at Spurs and say that he’s done everything he can possibly do now.

Yes, there are trophies to win, but that’s not something Kane has ultimate control of. Personally, he can take charge of how many goals he scores and make sure he is one in a million when it comes to goalscorers at this club, but on the pitch, he’s just one of 11 and if the rest of the team isn’t up to scratch, he won’t win trophies.

Kane could well believe he’s done all there is to do at Spurs now.
