Dirk Kuyt told the Transfer Deadline Day on Sky Sports that ‘it was a bit of a surprise’ that Schalke allowed Ozan Kabak to join Liverpool.

In a busy and hectic deadline day, Liverpool secured the signatures of two men at the back, including Ben Davies from Preston.

Whilst Davies has put pen-to-paper on a long-term contract, Kabak initially joins on a loan deal, with an option to make it permanent at the end of the season, as reported by BBC Sport.

Kuyt knows exactly what it’s like to step into the Anfield limelight and he shared his thoughts on the Kabak and Davies deals.

On Kabak: “For him, it’s also a great opportunity,” said Kuyt. “I am watching the Bundesliga very often and my former teammate in the national teammate, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar just joined them.

“So, it was a bit of a surprise that they let him go to Liverpool. But, for the lad, it’s a great opportunity. I think he’s a good signing. He’s still very young.

“But he has played a lot of games, so far. And I am really looking forward to seeing him playing for Liverpool.

“But this, for both of them, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because we know normally that Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t sign this kind of players. But because of the injuries, this kind of players can have the chance.”

There won’t be much time for the Liverpool new boys to settle and it wouldn’t be surprising if they are thrown straight into the Merseyside pressure cooker.

It was interesting that Liverpool, only last week, went from being happy with what they have despite the injuries to rushing in such a frantic manner to bring in, not one, but two centre-backs.

Well, a season-ending injury to yet another Liverpool defender was the reason behind that, as Joel Matip joins Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez in the treatment room, as reported by BBC Sport.
