Hammarby defender Mohanad Jeahze admits Celtic are a ‘big club’ but he is putting a potential £2 million move to the Scottish Premiership champions on the backburner, speaking to Fotboll Skanalen.
It’s been a funny week for Jeahze.
On Wednesday, the Scottish Sun claimed that Celtic were ‘on the verge’ of a £2 million deal that would see the Iraq international left-back become their first signing since snatching back the crown from Old Firm rivals Rangers.
Hammarby’s sporting director wasted little time in making it clear that Celtic had not yet made contact with the Allsvenskan outfit however.
And, in his Friday press conference, Ange Postecoglou went as far as to suggest that he didn’t even know who Jeahze is (Daily Record).
Then again, Postecoglou said back in January that the Hoops were unlikely to make any additions to their squad, just seven days before Matt O’Riley arrived from MK Dons.
At this time of the year, it’s worth taking everything you read with a pinch of salt.
Are Celtic signing Mohanad Jeahze from Hammarby?
“I do not want to say anything about it,” Jeahze says when quizzed directly on those Celtic links.
“I have told the people I work with that I do not want to hear about any interest. When agreements are there to be made, I want to know. We are not there yet.

“I am at Hammarby and have a contract for next year as well. (Celtic) is a big club, but I actually do not put much focus on it right now.”

According to The Athletic, a new left-back is indeed one of Celtic’s top priorities heading into Postecoglou’s second summer in Glasgow. The lack of depth in the position was exposed recently by the injury-enforced absence of Greg Taylor.
