West Ham United will play host to Southampton in the Premier League tomorrow.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson shared why he is really worried for West Ham, when writing a column for Sky Sports, and suggested that their only chance of beating Southampton tomorrow is if they are leading inside the first 30 minutes of the match.

The Hammers are currently in all sorts of trouble, and sit in 17th spot in the Premier League table, just two points clear of Mark Hughes’ 18th placed Saints side.

Frustrations boiled over for West Ham fans three weeks ago during their 3-0 home defeat to Burnley, as feelings inside the London Stadium reached new-found levels of toxicity.

It will be more important than ever for the fans to get behind their team tomorrow, but Paul Merson highlighted how the atmosphere at the London Stadium could turn nasty once again, if David Moyes’ side fail to take the lead early in the game, when writing a column for Sky Sports:

“I think this is a 30-minute football match. If West Ham aren’t winning after 30 minutes, I can’t see how they win this with how it is at the stadium, I think it will be toxic. West Ham got well beat last time out against Burnley, who aren’t even free scoring, but won 3-0 and slaughtered them. I’m worried for West Ham and the fans are good at reuniting and getting right behind their team, but it’s an ageing side with not a lot of pace so I worry about them.”

If West Ham lose at home to the Saints tomorrow, they will find themselves inside the bottom three, and with games against Chelsea and Arsenal on the horizon, that would spell real trouble for Moyes’ side.
