Jody Morris says he will be ‘extremely surprised’ if both Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya remain ‘happy’ if the latter secures a transfer from Thomas Frank’s Brentford to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal this summer.
The former Chelsea man added ‘Mikel Arteta knows more than me’, but he can’t see a scenario where one of those goalkeepers would be willing to sit on the bench ahead of the forthcoming Premier League campaign, as he told The Transfer Show on Sky Sports (31/07/23 at 7:50 pm).
Aaron Ramsdale has been Arsenal’s number one for a while now and he has done a pretty solid job of it, including calls that he should now be England’s number one ahead of Everton’s Jordan Pickford.
But, ahead of the forthcoming Premier League season, there has been talk of David Raya being added to the mix in north London – the Brentford star is open to the move.
The Spanish star, who was dubbed ‘one of the best’ by Julien Laurens (ESPN), has less than 12 months left on his contract and he will need to be sold this summer.
Given that the Emirates could be his next destination, it left Morris surprised because both are number one worthy.

“Mikel Arteta knows more than me,” said Morris. “But I would be extremely surprised if either of those goalkeepers would be happy with sitting on the bench.
“They are both quality goalkeepers. You wouldn’t want to be chopping and changing regularly. Whatever one is left out, they won’t be happy sitting on the bench.”

Does Arteta trust Ramsdale?
Arteta is clearly unhappy with something in Ramsdale’s game, or else, he wouldn’t be throwing such money at Raya.
Is he looking to replace Bukayo Saka in the XI? No, because he is one of their top, top performers.
But this is the ruthless nature of Arteta, he has done this throughout his time on the sidelines, and if Raya does arrive, then it will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.
