Former Inter defender Francesco Colonnese cannot believe why the Serie A giants would have ever considered selling Milan Skriniar to Tottenham Hotspur, as he told Nicolo Schira on Twitch.
Christian Eriksen might just have a future at the San Siro after all.
The Denmark international has struggled for opportunities in his favoured number ten role under Antonio Conte.
But, since being shifted into a deep-lying midfield role, Eriksen has undergone a transformation not too dissimilar to the one which turnedd Andrea Pirlo into the midfield maestro at the heart of Conte’s all-conquering Juventus.
Eriksen, however, is not the only big-name star who has undergone something of a personal renaissance this season.
It is hard to believe now, with Skriniar in such fine form, that Serie A challengers Inter ever wanted to cash in on him.
Fabrizio Romano, in his Here We Go podcast, claims that, if Tottenham had been willing to pay around £50 million for Jose Mourinho’s top defensive target, the Slovakia international would have been sold in an instant.
“When I heard they wanted to sell him, I was surprised,” said Colonnese, who played for the Nerazzuri between 1997 and 2000.

“Skriniar has everything: he’s fast, a serious guy, physically solid, young and mentally strong. He was treated like a bad player but instead he is one of Inter’s best players.
“They just had to give him confidence, he should not be called into question. If he played in a back four he would be even stronger but he has improved a lot playing in a back three.”
Given the way Spurs defended during their 5-4 FA Cup defeat to Everton, with both Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez struggling to deal with the movement of Carlo Ancelotti’s frontline, a top-class centre-half is still needed in North London.
Eric Dier and Joe Rodon also made crucial errors in recent defeats to Chelsea and Liverpool.
