Clint Dempsey has received a two-game ban for his recent indiscretion.
Since Tottenham Hotspur sold Clint Dempsey back to MLS in a deal worth $9 million in August 2013 the USMNT star has not exactly set North America alight at new club Seattle Sounders.
The 31-year-old has however recently looked back to his best – seemingly revitalised from a loan spell back at Fulham, which itself was uninspiring.
He bagged a goal at the weekend against Toronto FC – but unfortunately his former team-mate Jermain Defoe had already bagged two goals for the Canadian outfit.
But the 2-1 defeat was unfortunately remembered for a little more than this Spurs love-in.
As Dempsey had a rather awkward off-the-ball moment with Toronto defender Mark Bloom.
For all the world it looked like Dempsey had become upset with the scoreline, frustrated by the close marking and lashed out into – let’s say a private area.
Here, just check it out for yourselves…
He has since apologised and explained what his intentions were.
“To be honest with you. I felt a hand on my back. I tried to hit it away and thought I was hitting his hand away. I understand that maybe I did catch him a little bit. I apologized to him about that, but for me, all I was trying to do was smack his hand from touching my back.”
But it seems that has not washed with the MLS decision makers – as they have slapped a punishment down on ‘Deuce’.
He has received a two game ban for his actions and will therefore miss upcoming fixtures against Montreal Impact and Columbus Crew – although will be back for the Northwest derby against Portland Timbers.
