Aston Villa are set to announce a new signing today, according to owner Tony Xia.
Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has taken to Twitter to claim that a deal for a new signing is 99.9% done, and should be announced around midday today.
Villa have so far brought in just the one new signing during the January transfer window, as goalkeeper Sam Johnstone arrived on loan from Manchester United.
Nottingham Forest’s Henri Lansbury shoots against Aston Villa
However, last weekend’s 1-0 defeat away at Wolverhampton Wanderers showed just how weak Villa’s squad is right now, as they failed to muster even one shot on target during the 90 minutes at Molineux.
With Jordan Ayew and Jonathan Kodjia both at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana and Ivory Coast respectively, manager Steve Bruce needed additions before Saturday’s game with Preston North End – and he appears to have landed a new face.

The Birmingham Mail reported on Thursday that a £3million deal had finally been agreed with Nottingham Forest for the signature of midfielder Henri Lansbury following a protracted transfer saga.
Lansbury, 26, has hit 33 goals in 150 games for Forest since a 2012 move from Arsenal, becoming a key player at the City Ground as well as one of the most impressive midfielders in the Championhip.
However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Forest have been forced to cash in, and it was believed that Lansbury would undergo a medical ahead of signing a £40,000-a-week deal with Villa.
Now, Villa owner Tony Xia has taken to Twitter to admit that a deal for a player – presumably Lansbury – is 99.9% done and should be announced around midday, before immediately turning his attention towards signing up to four more players before the transfer deadline on January 31st.
