Liverpool approached Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers about their vacant manager position at the weekend… but he knocked them back.
The right decision or one he will one day live to regret?
In this case, the minds of supporters are made up. At the weekend we ran a poll asking fans that very question.
An incredible 96 per cent of voters said that ‘Yes – The Liverpool job was too much too soon’ – while just four per cent said he was wrong to turn down an opportunity of a lifetime.
As we said in our original piece, If he continues to be as good as his record this season suggests, then such jobs will surely come his way in the future, when the time is right.
The fan comments were also interesting.
“LFC job too much too soon? Right decision, but not for that reason. Liverpool is in a right mess and I don’t think the owners really know much about running a premier league football club. Clubs need to be in the hands of owners who have a passion for football and the club not just for financial gain (or loss as in Liverpools case at the moment)”
“Has unfinished business at Swansea. Right man just wrong time. One to look out for in the near future. Has worked miracles at Swansea with small budget, but with players who are hungry with a fantastic team spirit.”
“Yes, because he is happy, doing what he loves very well and being supported wholeheartedly by club and fans. Why would he go to Liverpool to a club in turmoil and where the fans and club are too quick to judge and want to make money rather than play good football. Stay where you are Brendan, for your own sake and that of football.”
“Can’t tick the yes option even though I want to as the reason should read ” Yes- LFC job a poisoned chalice”
Do you agree that Rodgers made the right decision to reject Liverpool?
