Marseille want Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko on loan.
This is potentially disappointing for Spurs as they seek to recoup as much as they can of the £30 million they committed to pay Newcastle last summer.
But Tottenham don’t have many options at present to get rid of the Frenchman, who won’t consider a move to China as he is seeking to win a place in his country’s 2018 World Cup squad.
Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko
The only way Spurs chairman Daniel Levy should consider accepting a loan deal is if Marseille can agree to pay 100 per cent of his wages.
Sissoko is among Tottenham’s highest earners, with The Mirror reporting he earns £5 million per year, £95,000 per week.
Part of the incentive to let him move on is to shift his wages off their books, and if the Ligue 1 side do not pay up, then Tottenham should not even consider letting him leave on loan.
Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko
It’s a valuable amount of money for Spus to free up, which they could put towards the addition of another player, or increase Eric Dier’s wages.
Lest not forget Tottenham paid just £5 million to buy Dele Alli – one year of Moussa Sissoko’s wages.
The aim has to be the remove him from their wage bill, and if that means taking a temporary concession by waiving a fee this summer and getting one the next, it’s a move they must take.
Perhaps even if he hits form for Marseille and stars at next summer’s World Cup, they might find a crazed side ready to overpay for him off the back of a few games at a major tournament.
