Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with Jose Mourinho – and that may mean new starts for some players.
Spurs confirmed Mourinho’s sacking on Monday morning, parting ways with him after 17 months in the job.
Just hours before the news broke of Mourinho’s exit, The Athletic reported that Daniel Levy had been stepping in to stop a player from leaving.
They claim that Tottenham have received approaches for winger Steven Bergwijn, a player who has been on the fringes under Mourinho.
After starting regularly earlier in the season, Bergwijn hasn’t started a league game for more than two months and wasn’t even in the squad to face Everton on Friday.
With Mourinho seemingly not fancying Bergwijn, clubs attempted to tee up summer moves for the Dutchman, but were batted away by Levy, who doesn’t want to sell.
Bergwijn, a £27million signing from PSV Eindhoven in January 2020, has shown promise at times with Spurs, but hasn’t quite got the end product yet.
