Nathan Patterson looks set for a huge future, both with Rangers and with Scotland.

The right back has emerged through the Rangers ranks having first joined the club way back in 2009, and is now thriving under Steven Gerrard.

After making two appearances for Rangers last season, the 19-year-old has scored twice in 13 outings for the Gers this season, with one of those goals coming in the Europa League.

Patterson started for Rangers against Celtic on Sunday, with Gerrard picking him in his starting XI despite star right back James Tavernier being available again.

Patterson’s performances are so good right now that many are even backing him to not only make Scotland’s European Championships squad, but even start for his country this summer.

With Tavernier approaching his 30’s, having a young right back in Patterson emerging is ideal for Rangers – and he’s now receiving praise from another manager.

St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson has told The Scottish Sun that he wanted to sign Patterson during the January window, but realised there was ‘no chance’ a loan deal would be possible.

Davidson admits he is ‘really excited’ when he sees Patterson play, branding him a ‘fantastic prospect’ with a huge future ahead of him, believing that he fits Rangers’ system perfectly.

“I’m really excited when I watch him play,” said Davidson. “He is someone we looked at when we were losing Danny McNamara in January. I had a look at Nathan Patterson and thought, ‘Oof, I wouldn’t mind mind getting him’. But no chance.”

“He’s a fantastic prospect and hopefully he can continue to develop the way he is. He’s got a lot of potential, you see his energy levels and his quality, but for me it’s his attitude. He’s got a great attitude when he’s on the pitch, he never gives up. I am really excited about that for the national team. Attacking full-backs are part of the threat in most teams, especially the way Rangers play. They encourage their full-backs to get high and get the ball into the area. He fits that system really well,” he added.
