Kieran Trippier impressed for Tottenham against CSKA Moscow.
Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier in action
Kieran Trippier made his first ever Champions League start this week when he was selected ahead of Kyle Walker.
The former Burnley right-back had only made one previous appearance for the club this season, in the EFL Cup win over Gillingham.

Last night’s match was a step up in competition for the defender, but he showed he was more than capable of rising to the challenge.
Trippier was a key part of the back four which kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win, and showed he can be relied upon.
| Passing Accuracy | Won Tackle | Interception Won | Outfielder Block | Effective Clearance | Total Att Assist | Crossing Accuracy | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kieran Trippier | 92% | 1 | 3 | 0 | 5 | 2 | 25% |
Trippier completed 92 per cent of his passes, a difficult feat in a Champions Legue away game, and even created two goalscoring chances going forward.
The way he adapted was in contrast to deputy left-back Ben Davies, who underwhelmed as part of the Spurs defence in the previous game, as they lost at home to Monaco.
Trippier is in only his second season at Spurs, and his game time is few and far between thanks to the impressive performances of Kyle Walker, but his display on Tuesday night may well have earned him further opportunities.
