Gary Gillespie has told The Sunday Post that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers were better than Celtic in defence this season.
Rangers have won the Scottish Premiership title this season and are still unbeaten in the league.
Celtic were hoping to win the league title for the 10th year in a row this season, but the Hoops imploded, with Neil Lennon leaving his role as the manager in February.
Rangers have scored 78 goals and have conceded just 10 all season in the league.
As for Celtic, the Hoops have scored 66 goals and have shipped in 24 in 33 league games this season.
Former Celtic defender Gillespie has given his take on Rangers and the Bhoys, and has pointed out that defensively the Hoops left much to be desired.
Gillespie told The Sunday Post: “I thought Shane Duffy would’ve been a good signing. His Premier League performances were solid.
“Rangers’ defensive record is unreal and that’s where Celtic have been a bit weak. But I think Kris Ajer is still a prospect and Christopher Jullien has been unlucky with injuries.
“The squad itself is good enough to compete. Callum McGregor appears highly thought of there so he could be captain, he’s matured into an all-round midfielder.”
Bouncing back
Celtic will bounce back next season and become stronger, and Rangers simply cannot get complacent.
There could be changes in the team at the Hoops, who will also have a new manager in charge.
It is not easy to defend a league title, and Rangers will have to be at their very best to win the championship again next season.
