Ian Wright thinks Declan Rice isn’t being talked about enough after he put in another strong showing during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
The Highbury legend stated that Declan Rice is ‘8/9 out of ten every week’ and he thinks ‘the fact that he was quiet’ yesterday, proves that he did ‘very well’.
Before the international break, Arsenal’s club-record transfer scored the winning goal against Manchester United.
Well, Wright thinks that Declan Rice put in the same type of showing on Merseyside yesterday, but he just didn’t get the goal for his name to get the ‘headlines’, as he told Premier League Productions (17/09/23 at 6:40 pm).
Instead, those headlines belonged to Leandro Trossard, who didn’t start the game, but came on from the bench for the injured Gabriel Martinelli and took his chance.
As for Rice, he played the entire game against Everton, but Wright doesn’t think he is getting enough praise for it.

Declan Rice against Everton
“The fact that Declan is quiet, and we aren’t speaking about him, it proves that he has gone about his job and he has done very well,” said Wright. “That’s exactly what he does.
“We saw against Manchester United when he got all the headlines, but he scored the goal. But he has been playing similarly to that.
“Declan is 8/9 out of 10 every week. When he plays like he did this week, and he doesn’t score. This is exactly what he did against Manchester United. He goes about it quietly and efficiently, stomps things out, progresses the ball and defensively he does everything.
“You are always going to get that out of him.”

Arsenal finally beat Everton
Not since the Arsene Wenger days had Arsenal beaten Everton at Goodison Park, as they put that to bed yesterday.
That’s another game or mental block ticked off, just like they did when they had issues against Crystal Palace.
But whilst it’s Champions League football up next for the Gunners, it could be argued that the north London derby at the weekend is even bigger.
