Chelsea’s Willian dazzled against Sunderland but could not help his side avoid defeat.
Chelsea saw their title hopes begin to evaporate by losing 2-1 to Sunderland, but there was one performance to give the club reason to smile.
Samuel Eto’o’s goal was set up by Brazilian sensation Willian, who provided a staggering nine goalscoring opportunities.
This was the highest of any Chelsea player in any Premier League game this season – matching a record set only by himself, and eclipsing Eden Hazard’s best.
Bizarrely those chances were created in a game Chelsea also failed to win, and even score in – a 0-0 draw at home to West Ham earlier this year.
| Match | Matchday | Total Att Assist | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Willian | Chelsea vs West Ham | 23 | 9 |
| Willian | Chelsea vs Sunderland | 35 | 9 |
| Eden Hazard | Chelsea vs West Ham | 23 | 8 |
| Eden Hazard | Fulham vs Chelsea | 28 | 7 |
| André Schürrle | Chelsea vs Fulham | 05 | 7 |
| Willian | Man City vs Chelsea | 24 | 7 |
The Brazilian has been excellent since the turn of the year, and justified Jose Mourinho’s decision to drop and sell Juan Mata to accommodate him in the side.
Chelsea simply need to sign a striker who can take advantage of the chances he is able to create on such a prolific basis, and ensure there are no shock home defeats next season.
