Spurs £8m summer buy Ben Davies admits it’s been frustrating at the club

Ben Davies says that his initial time at Tottenham Hotspur has been a frustrating one because of his lack of first-team chances.

Ben Davies has admitted that he has been left frustrated at his lack of first-team starts at Tottenham Hotspur since singing this summer.

Davies completed a £8 million move from Swansea City to White Hart Lane during the previous transfer window, but he has had to make do with fleeting appearances for his new side.

The Welsh full-back has generally been utilised in cup competitions, with Danny Rose’s form keeping him out of the team at left-back.

And he admits that sitting on the bench has been hard for him to adjust to, after being a regular starter at the Swans, even if he is still enjoying his start to life at the North-London club.

“It’s sometimes frustrating when you’re not playing the games you want to, but I’ve got a new manager, I’ve got to be patient and work hard,” he said to the South Wales Evening Post.

“I am enjoying it. It’s a big step, but it’s the kind of opportunity that might not come again.”

“When my chance comes to play some games I’ve got to take that chance.”

Davies was expected to be part of Mauricio Pochetitno’s first-team plans, but it seems that he may have to make do with a rotational role for a while.

Rose was handed a new long term contract at the club over the summer, so Davies knows that his rival for a first-team place is going nowhere soon and he will have to step up his game to make the position his own.

The 21-year-old has time on his side to develop, given his tender years, but he will be looking to make more of an impact soon after a fairly slow start.

Spurs are in sixth position in the Premier League table after a decent start, but they are still behind Swansea at this stage and Davies admits that he thinks his former club will have a good season.

“Swansea are my home town club and they’re still a big part of me. It’s good to see them doing well in the league. I’m happy for Ash [Ashley Williams] and the other boys,” he said.

“There’s a really good feeling. I think it’s going to be a hard game whoever plays them. They’ll be a tough outfit to beat. They’ve started off superbly and I think they can really achieve something this season.”
