Tottenham should chase Monaco’s Lemar, with Kylian Mbappe likely to be too expensive.

L’Equipe reported last month that Tottenham Hotspur had put Kylian Mbappe at the top of their list of potential signings.

Then the 18-year-old’s form exploded, scoring nine goals in his last eight games, including two in two against Manchester City in the Champions League.

This has seen Mbappe’s valued in excess of £50 million, a fee likely to be too expensive for Tottenham, who have the best net spend of any top six Premier League club over the past few seasons.

With Monaco stunning City last night as they did Tottenham earlier in the Champions League campaign, one of Mbappe’s teammates showed why he may be a more affordable addition than Mbappe.

Thomas Lemar produced the match winning assist for Tiemyoue Bakayoko’s headed winner, stepping up just when they needed him after he was unavailable for the first leg.

This season he has an impressive 11 goals and eight assists to his name already – which included a goal over Tottenham in each of their Champions League victories over Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the group stages.

Lemar plays on the left wing, and is playing at a more elite level than either Georges-Kevin N’Koudou or Clinton N’Jie were when they signed for Spurs.
