Manchester United are interested in signing Aaron Ramsey, claim The Sun, in a potential shock move from Arsenal.

Ramsey did not have an excellent season in terms of his goalscoring, netting just five times in 31 Premier League matches, short of the 10 he struck in 2013/14.

He is already off the mark at Euro 2016 for Wales, highlighting his ability to produce on the big stage – following on from a FA Cup final winner in 2014 for Arsenal against Hull.

Yet aside from his goalscoring ability, it was Ramsey’s ball winning skills which really shone for Arsenal in 2015/16 – averaging figures of eight per game.

This would represent an immediate upgrade for Manchester United in their midfield, well clear of the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Michael Carrick.

The rumoured £50 million is a lot of money to pay, and a deal may be a non-starter due to the sour relationship between managers Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger – but it is easy to see why the Red Devils would be keen on signing the 25-year-old Welshman.

The one possibility going for United, would be if Ramsey were to say he wanted a move. This could happen if Jose Mourinho can convince him he has a place in the centre of their midfield.

At times, even last season, Arsenal boss Wenger shunted him out on the right of midfield to accommodate his alternative options, and with new £30m signing Granit Xhaka surely locking down a spot, Ramsey will have to fight for his place at The Emirates.
