Javier Hernandez has taken a swipe at West Ham United on social media.
The Mexico international joined the Hammers for £16 million in 2017 but his spell in East London could’ve perhaps gone better.
Hernandez only managed 16 goals in 55 Premier League games for West Ham, before handing in a transfer request and ultimately joining Sevilla in 2019.
But the 32-year-old has accused the Irons of not living up to certain promises that were made to him before signing the contract.
Slaven Bilic was West Ham boss at the time of Hernandez’s arrival but the Croat was sacked a few months later.
The former Manchester United striker went on to play under David Moyes and Manuel Pellegrini, but he claims the club broke promises over playing time.
Hernandez, who now plays for LA Galaxy and earns £85,000 per week, said on Instagram: “I enjoyed it a lot even though they didn’t give me the chances that they promised me, but yeah I enjoyed it a lot. The Hammers are a great fanbase, the stadium – everything. I enjoyed it a lot.”
It was Moyes’s and Pellegrini’s job to win football matches and if both managers felt that they had better options than Hernandez available to help the team then that decision has to be respected.
Making promises of regular football is difficult because if the player is out of form – which Hernandez was for quite a long time in London – then something has to give and you’re going to struggle to make the first XI, regardless of who the manager is.
