Liverpool’s Adam Lallana shone for England as they beat Scotland 3-0 at Wembley.
Liverpool attacking midfielder Adam Lallana maintained his superb form for club and country this season as England took one step closer to World Cup qualification with a 3-0 win over Scotland.
The Three Lions went in to the match with rivals Scotland top of the group and having not conceded a goal thus far, while the visitors on the other hand had disappointed.
England were expected to pick up all three points in a comfortable manner, yet despite what the scoreline suggests it could have been much different had the Scots put away a number of inviting opportunities.
England’s Adam Lallana celebrates scoring their second goal
Gareth Southgate’s side weren’t at their best by any stretch of the imagination, but three excellent finishes from Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Chelsea’s Gary Cahill made sure of the points.
On a night where there were few standouts in terms of a brilliant all-round individual England display, Liverpool’s Lallana did demonstrate once again why he is quickly becoming such a key player.
| Goals | Shots | Was Fouled | Touches | Pass-accuracy | Tackles | Effective Clearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adam Lallana | 1 | 2 | 3 | 62 | 82.1% | 3 | 2 | 90 |
As shown by the table above, the former Southampton man was heavily involved for the hosts and displayed real quality on the ball in key moments of the match.
Lallana contributed with two shots, three tackles and two effective clearances while also posting an impressive 82.1% pass-accuracy rate over the course of the 90 minutes.

But it was his goal which topped off a solid night’s work, guiding Danny Rose’s excellent left-wing cross home with a cushioned header that left Craig Gordon in the Scotland net with no chance at all.
Lallana only recently broke his England goal duck with a last-minute winner in Slovakia earlier this season, and now with another goal to the list at Wembley he is certainly justifying his place in the side.
