It’s been another pretty difficult season for Xherdan Shaqiri at Liverpool.
The Switzerland international came close to leaving the Reds toward the end of the summer transfer window but wound up staying and fighting for his place.
But it hasn’t been a successful fight because as of right now, Shaqiri has started just the five Premier League games for Liverpool this season.
Speculation about his future on Merseyside is inevitable this summer and La Razon report that Sevilla could be interested in the 29-year-old.
The report adds that Shaqiri himself is keen to leave Liverpool – and that the club’s hierarchy are also ‘willing’ to see a parting of ways.
The former Bayern Munich attacker has two years to run on his existing deal and La Razon add that the Spanish outfit could meet Michael Edwards’s £12.8 million asking price, but that his £80,000-a-week wages could be an ‘obstacle’.
Should he leave? In a word, absolutely.
Shaqiri is still in the prime of his career and he won’t want to look back on this period and think that he wasted his best years as a squad player under Jurgen Klopp.
He still has a lot to offer lesser teams and a summer move makes absolute sense.
