Arsenal secured a 1-0 win against Chelsea as the Gunners returned to the top of the Premier League, and for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the striker had a game to forget against the north London side.
Once their captain, the narrative building up to this fixture seemed to ensure that Aubameyang would turn up against Arsenal and slay them down with his new employers Chelsea. However, the attacker endured what might have been his worst game yet for the Blues.
As stats from WhoScored show, the Gabon international managed just eight touches in the entire match, with Aubameyang having just one shot as the Arsenal defence totally nullified Chelsea’s attack as Aaron Ramsdale enjoyed his first game in quite some while where the England international didn’t have to make a single save.
With Gabriel Magalhaes scoring the winner for Arsenal, the result took Mikel Arteta’s side an incredible 13 points clear of Chelsea in the Premier League, with belief now stronger than ever that the Gunners are in a genuine race for the title alongside Manchester City.

Indeed, Arsenal’s form this season has been nothing short of incredible. And for Arteta, the 40-year-old manager has yet again been proven right in his decision last January to offload Aubameyang, with the Gunners now much better off without the former FC Barcelona star.
Whilst Gabriel Jesus wasn’t on the scoresheet for Arsenal, the Brazilian international put in the graft to help the Gunners over the line against Chelsea, whilst Aubameyang came off just past the hour mark as the forward could only watch his former side claim the three points against the Blues.
Arsenal proven right to offload Aubameyang after Chelsea disasterclass

Arteta made a huge call last January to allow Aubameyang to leave Arsenal, yet ten months on from the decision, and the north London club have never looked more exciting, dangerous or healthy in quite some years, and the striker’s performance for Chelsea today proved how correct the Gunners were to sanction the sale.
Aubameyang was a ghost for Chelsea in a game that saw the west London side drift even further away from Arsenal in the standings. And for Arteta, this win will taste extra sweet given how poorly his former captain performed when the occasion was on the line.
