Say what you like about Arsenal loanee Matteo Guendouzi, but he is a very good footballer.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has banished Guendouzi from his senior squad for the past 18 months.

Guendouzi has had a season-long loan at Hertha Berlin and is now impressing on a regular basis with Marseille, alongside William Saliba.

Arteta’a decsion to exile the 22-year-old remains one that has divided opinion within the Gunners’ fanbase.

There’s no doubting that the France international – who won his first cap in November – is a controversial and fiery figure but, as he showed again on Friday, he’s also a massive talent.

Talent

Guendouzi starred as the Ligue 1 outfit beat Angers 5-2.

And the former Lorient midfielder – a £7 million signing in 2018 under Unai Emery – grabbed another assist for himself, making it 10 across all competitions [Transfermarkt].

And strangely, Guendouzi now has twice as many assists as any Arsenal player this season.

According to BBC Sport stats, Nicolas Pepe, with five, is leading the way for Arteta’s outfit in this regard.

So for the Arsenal loanee to have double that amount doesn’t reflect great on the Spaniard, it has to be said – especially seen as the North Londoners spent the whole of January trying to sign a midfielder and wound up with nobody.
