£7m player has a message for Celtic’s detractors

Celtic central defender Christopher Jullien has told The Daily Record that his side were the best team in the Scottish Premiership this season.

The 27-year-old – who cost the Hoops £7 million in transfer fees, according to The Scottish Sun – has dismissed suggestions that Celtic’s ninth league title in a row is tainted.

As reported by The Daily Record, former Rangers defender Gareth McAuley and ex-Gers manager Walter Smith have taken swipes at the Hoops being declared champions of Scotland without the entire season being played out.

However, Jullien has dismissed those suggestions, claiming that Celtic were the best team in Scotland this season.

Jullien told The Daily Record: “We were 13 points clear and it’s clear that we were the best team in the league.

“When the season has to end like this, then you are always going to get people speaking against it. For me, it definitely is a title that I am proud of.

“I will get my medal, I have won the trophy for Celtic and that is perfect. If people want to talk it down, I will just ignore it. It’s always going to be like that.”

Celtic will be favourites

Celtic will be aiming to win the league title in Scotland next season for the 10th year in a row.

Rangers will be determined to stop their bitter Old Firm rivals next season, which promises to be massive.

The Hoops will start next season as favourites, and it will be up to Rangers to stop Neil Lennon’s side.

Meanwhile, Owen Coyle, who has managed St Johnstone and Ross County in his career, has given his take on Rangers failing to maintain the pressure on Celtic after the mid-season winter break.

Coyle said on the Football Daft podcast, as transcribed by The Glasgow Evening Times: “They know they’ve got that character within the dressing room; they know how to get themselves back up to the level they were again.

“And that’s why I thought ‘the second half season is going to be great, if Rangers can sustain it’, because Celtic are going to ramp it up as they always do in those last months of the season.

“Two defeats and two draws – that shows you in terms of the level of consistency they’ve had. It’s incredible.”
