Fabio Vieira has been given a warm welcome at Arsenal by his compatriot Nuno Tavares.
The Portuguese midfielder has joined the Gunners in a £34 million deal from Porto.
Vieira has become Arsenal’s second signing of a summer window that is taking shape very nicely, amid speculation that they’re close to also bringing Gabriel Jesus and Raphinha to the Emirates Stadium.
The 22-year-old reacted to his move to North London on Instagram and a lot of Porto players wished him.
However, Tavares was also quick to welcome him.
In response to Vieira’s first post as an Arsenal player, Tavares first wrote in Portuguese which, when translated, read: “Red looks great“, in reference to the player sporting a Gunners kit.
The former Benfica left-back also wrote, in English: “Welcome T-Bag.”
Tavares and Vieira played for Portuguese rivals, but they’re both Portugal Under-21 internationals which explains the connection.
But will Vieira get a chance to play with his compatriot at Arsenal? Possibly not.
That’s because Tavares is linked with a summer transfer away from Mikel Arteta’s side, with a £34 million valuation reportedly being placed on him last week [Tutto Atalanta].
That’s a very steep price for someone who endured a relatively poor first season in the Premier League last term.
So although a departure is possible for Tavares, it won’t be for that amount.
