Nemanja Matic returned for Chelsea against Hull City and played his part in the Blues’ victory.
Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic would be the first to admit that he did not have his best game against Hull City on Saturday. But a below-par Matic is still a cut-above most midfielders in England right now.
The Serbian international’s importance was made clear for all to see when Chelsea slipped to their first defeat of the season without him. But back in the side, Matic did his job against the Tigers, if not at his usual high standard.
There were times when the midfielder looked below par, when passes went astray and the absence of fellow midfielder Cesc Fabregas was laid bare. But Matic still showed his value.
The Chelsea player had a passing accuracy of 83 per cent and he played one key pass during the match. He also won three tackles, six duels and three interceptions.
| Passing Accuracy | Tackles Won | Interceptions Won | Duels Won | Touches | Key Passes | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nemanja Matic | 83% | 3 | 3 | 6 | 79 | 1 | 90 |
Matic will have better games then this, but he remains vital to Jose Mourinho’s hopes of reclaiming the Premier League crown.
There are simply too few midfielder’s of Matic’s quality in the English top flight and Chelsea did brilliantly bringing him back to Stamford Bridge when they did.
