Joel Campbell was substituted after an ineffective performance for Arsenal against Southampton.
There were not many Arsenal players to cover themselves in glory against Southampton, and Joel Campbell was among the players who failed to impress.
The Costa Rican was substituted by manager Arsene Wenger after just an hour, with his performance failing to threaten the opposition.
Campbell did not carve out any big chances, nor he he manage to test the goalkeeper himself, also recording a below par 77 per cent pass completion rate.
| Passing Accuracy | Big Chance Created | Goals | Goal Assist | Total Contest | Accurate Cross | On Target Shooting Accuracy | Duel Won | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joel Campbell | 77% | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 0% | 4 | 62 |
This has been a breakthrough season for Campbell at Arsenal, but he is in danger of losing momentum at a key point in the season.
The 23-year-old has played in all of Arsenal’s recent three league games, in which they have failed to score, and Arsene Wenger will have to consider his options with regard to mixing it up, and potentially giving youngster Alex Iwobi further opportunities.
Campbell has looked good in games where players around him are doing well, but when the likes of Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are having off days, Campbell is unable to lift his game and the team.
Against Southampton he did not deliver a single accurate cross from out side, and this is a factor Arsenal need to improve. It would not be a surprise to see Campbell miss out against Bournemouth at the weekend.
