77% accuracy: Cesc Fabregas puts in his worst passing display in the league this season

Cesc Fabregas was successful with just 77 per cent of his passes in Chelsea’s defeat to Newcastle United.

Chelsea’s summer signing Cesc Fabregas has put in some truly outstanding performances since he arrived at Stamford Bridge, his passing second to none…at least until now.

Against Newcastle United the Spanish international put in his worst passing display of the Premier League season, with an accuracy of just 77 per cent.

On only one other occassion this season has the Chelsea midfielder seen his accuracy dip below 84 per cent in the league (in the unforgettable 6-3 win against Everton in August).

That match aside, Fabregas has seen his passing accuracy somewhere between 84 per cent and 94 per cent, but against Newcastle the £26million man’s radar appeared off.

He still managed to provide five key passes to set up goal-scoring chances for a teammate, while 38 of his passes were played forward, but this was a match in which Chelsea needed an on-form Fabregas and for whatever reason he was not at his best.

Much of the credit for that should go down to Newcastle for their brilliant performance to keep the league leaders at bay; but Fabregas will not be happy with his contribution and will want to show just how accurate those feet can be when he takes to the field once more.
