Norwich City sporting director Stuart Webber has warned reported Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool target Todd Cantwell won’t leave on the cheap this summer, edp24 report.
The Norwich attacking midfielder has been a standout for the club this season.
The Daily Mail claimed in March how his displays have attracted the interests of Tottenham Hotspur. The Independent said Liverpool were keen around the same time.
Norwich’s position at the foot of the Premier League table leaves them vulnerable.
But sporting director Webber has warned that the prospect of relegation rival Jack Grealish leaving Aston Villa for £75 million will only increase Cantwell’s asking price.
“I looked on a gossip column and Jack Grealish was being touted to Manchester United for £75m, well if that’s the benchmark, then what has Todd done differently to Jack Grealish?” Webber explained.
Webber also questioned the interest in his side’s players, adding: “I look at our young players and I think, you’ve had one season in the Premier League – that doesn’t mean you’re ready to play for Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Man City, Liverpool etcetera.”
Is Todd Cantwell ready for a big move?
Grealish, 24, has been superb for Villa despite their struggles this season. He has seven goals and six assists in 26 Premier League games.
Cantwell, on the other hand, has six goals and two assists in 25 league starts.
The 22-year-old has largely featured out on the left wing. However, he is also capable of playing on the opposite flank and through the middle.
Liverpool may see Cantwell as a player who can provide back-up to Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.
The Reds will look to strengthen their attacking options despite their Premier League dominance. Cantwell is young and energetic, while capable of finding the net.
Tottenham must find an alternative to Harry Kane. It remains to be seen what type of budget Spurs will work with this summer, but a new striker has to be the priority.
