What a difference a week makes for Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira.
The Gunners-owned midfielder enjoyed a brilliant debut for loan club Atletico Madrid in their win over Celta Vigo last week.
In fact, Torreira, who earns £75,000 per week at Arsenal, even earned praise from coach Diego Simeone afterwards.
But it looks like Simeone was less impressed with his contribution on Saturday.
Torreira started the win over Real Betis yesterday but was substituted at half-time after a dismal first 45 minutes.
It remains to be seen if it was an enforced change or a tactical one, but the statistics indicate that the Uruguayan defensive midfielder – whose pass percentage was 76 percent and lost the ball five times – might’ve been hauled off due to being fairly ineffective.
Only this week, Torreira was saying that he wouldn’t mind staying in the Spanish capital beyond the end of his loan agreement next summer.
But inconsistency was his biggest problem at Arsenal last season following a brilliant first year and, based on yesterday, it could be the same story again.
