Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to laud Georginio Wijnaldum for his performance against Atalanta in the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp’s men steamrolled the Italian outfit, who appeared to be the Reds’ biggest group stage test having reached the quarter-finals of the competition last term.

However, a hat-trick from Diogo Jota and a goal each from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane earned Liverpool all three points, as well as a fine display from Wijnaldum.

The Netherlands international – who Liverpool paid £25 million for when signing him from Newcastle – shone against the Serie A side.

SofaScore shows that the Dutchman drove forward effectively, completing all of his attempted three dribbles.

Wijnaldum also won four ground duels, and completed an impressive 93% of his passes yesterday evening.

The 29-year-old only lost possession on five occasions too, on a night where he kept things ticking over nicely and allowed Jota, Mane and Salah to thrive in attack.

Liverpool have now won all three of their group stage matches so far, having recorded wins over Ajax, FC Midtjylland and Atalanta without conceding a single goal.
