Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to question Jose Mourinho’s decision to play Ben Davies at centre-back in Thursday’s Europa League defeat to Royal Antwerp.

The Wales international lined up alongside Davinson Sanchez in the centre of defence, but made a costly error to allow Lior Refaelov to net the winner.

Interestingly, Mourinho decided to play Davies at centre-back despite the fact the former Swansea man is naturally a left-back.

Transfermarkt shows that Davies has made 254 appearances at left-back throughout his career, but only nine at centre-back.

When you consider that Tottenham had Toby Alderweireld on the bench against the Belgian outfit, it does make Mourinho’s decision all the more confusing.

Nevertheless, it’s a team game and Davies wasn’t the sole reason that Spurs lost.

In fact, SofaScore shows that the 27-year-old recorded some decent numbers.

Davies – who cost £10 million – made three clearances and blocked two shots, while he also won an impressive seven aerial duels.

The Tottenham No.33 also made two key passes, and completed three long-range passes.
