Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after they heard Ian Wright talking about them on his Wrighty’s House podcast.

The Arsenal legend said: ‘If I had to choose somebody now, I’d want to play for Aston Villa at this moment, because of Jack Grealish and Ross Barkley, because of the work rate that they put in.’

This is coming from a man who played alongside the likes of Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira and Tony Adams, so he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to football.

In truth, it’s hard to argue with Wright’s comments.

The likes of Barkley and Grealish are ‘cheeky’ players who gets supporters off their seats, with their intent to drive forward and dribble with the ball.

Away from the England internationals, Villa have hard-working players who have grafted to get where they are.

Take Emiliano Martinez and Ollie Watkins, for example.

The Argentine glovesman had six loan spells away from Arsenal, including stints at Oxford, Rotherham and Reading. However, he still battled back to be in between the sticks when Arsenal won the FA Cup, before securing his £17 million move to Villa Park.

In Watkins’ case, the £28 million striker was playing for Exeter City as recently as 2017, but is now in England’s top-flight putting clubs like Liverpool to the sword.

Let’s see how the Villa fans on Twitter reacted to Wright’s comments…
