Real Madrid are set to make a bid for Liverpool star Luis Suarez this summer.
Liverpool look set to finalise a deal to sign Rickie Lambert today, as they move in to bring in cover for their starting strikeforce of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. The one thing they will certainly be hoping for is that he does not become a replacement for the former.
Last summer Suarez’s future was up in the air. Linked with Arsenal for much of the transfer window, he eventually committed his future to Liverpool by signing a new deal throughout the course of last season. But of there is one team in world football that can make players renege on deals it has to be Real Madrid.
The trouble for Liverpool is that Florentino Perez might just fancy the Uruguayan this summer.
Spanish paper El Confidencial reported yesterday that contract talks with French international striker Karim Benzema had hit the skids. The former Lyon front man is out of contract next summer and Real obviously do not wish to lose him on a free. With that in mind they will happily sell him this summer in order to get as much money as possible for him, rather than watch him run down his current deal at the Bernabeu.
And the same report believes Suarez will replace him. The suggestion is that Real Madrid will want to creat a fearsome three man strikeforce of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Suarez – with Los Merengues ready to part with €70 million to get the Liverpool man.
Obviously the Anfield club will not be keen on a sale. The fact is Suarez is their star and they could probably get more money than that for his services.
But if Real decide to let Benzema go – with Arsenal reportedly interested – they will need a centre forward , and they are not a team to buy the second best.
Suarez has not made it a secret that one day Real Madrid might be a destination he craves. Liverpool will just hope it is not this summer.
