Wolves fans have taken to Twitter to pile the praise on Conor Coady, after he scored on his first start for England.

The 27-year-old poked a fine half-volley past ex-Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey to double England’s lead following Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s opener.

In doing so, Coady became the first Wolves player to score for England in 30 years since Steve Bull did so in 1990, according to Opta.

In the closing stages of the match, the man who cost Wolves just £2 million from Huddersfield even had the armband on.

That speaks volumes about his leadership skills seeing as it was just his second appearance for England.

The Wolves No.16 – who earns £50k-a-week according to The Daily Mail – also kept a clean sheet on a dream evening for himself personally.

WhoScored shows he made one interception and blocked one shot as the Three Lions shut out their British rivals.

You could see just how much the moment meant to Coady immediately after the ball had hit the net.

He could hardly have had a better start to his England career, and he’s chosen a great time to impress Southgate with the European Championships just around the corner.
