HITC Sport look at 7 things which Arsenal fans would love for Christmas.

Tottenham's Harry Kane shoots at goal

1) An injury…..to Harry Kane

Arsenal don’t like Tottenham. We’re not telling any tales out of school here. It’s common knowledge and although nobody at HITC wishes injury on players, Arsenal fans might enjoy their ham and turkey a little more if, say, Spurs’ go-to-guy was to slip on a bit of tinsel and rule himself out for….a while.

Forget iPhones, iPads and those silly Virtual Reality goggles – Scalextric and Subbuteo were among the most requested items on a Santa list when Tottenham last finished above Arsenal in the Premier League (1995, if you were wondering) and if red is to remain the dominant colour in North London then a Kane injury would help that.

Bournemouth's Jack Wilshere

2) Jack Wilshere’s loan being terminated

We’re not talking about Wenger’s Christmas day dinner when we say that the Frenchman’s goose was cooked at the beginning of the month. On December 1, Santi Cazorla was ruled out for three months with an ankle injury. This was devastating for two reasons: a) Cazorla is a class act and a driving force behind their excellent form and b) the best man to replace him is on loan at Bournemouth.

Granit Xhaka, Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed Elneny are not fit to lace the Spaniard’s boots. Wilshere is perhaps not in that league either, but he is much closer to it than those other three.

Arsenal's Carl Jenkinson in action with Southampton's Sofiane Boufal

3) Carl Jenkinson’s contract being terminated

Harsh? Perhaps. But the fact of the matter is that Carl Jenkinson isn’t very good. He is a lifelong Arsenal fan and that can cause something of a conflict when it comes to judging him, but sentimentality aside, he isn’t good enough for Arsenal.

Arsenal's Mesut Ozil celebrates scoring their third goal with Alexis Sanchez

4) Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez signing new contracts

Arsenal fans would love to switch on Sky Sports News on Christmas morning and read: ‘BREAKING: Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have each signed 10-year contract extensions.’ The duo are critically important for the club and it is imperative that Wenger keeps them there. How? Who knows. Perhaps a Premier League title win is the only thing which will convince them to ink new deals.

5) Mass quantities of alcohol to numb the pain of realising they won’t win the league

I know it. You know it. Wenger knows it and, sadly, the players know it. Everybody knows Arsenal won’t win the Premier League title this season and it’s time Gunners supporters planned ahead by filling the utility room with enough alcohol to put a herd of elephants on their backsides.

Arsenal's Olivier Giroud

6) A top-quality striker

With 12 goals in 16 Premier League outings, Alexis Sanchez is doing a fine job as Arsenal’s number nine this season. But he’s not the complete centre-forward and the Gunners would be better off having him play to the left of a top-quality hitman. Arsene Wenger will tell you that it is very difficult to sign such a player in January. And it is, but impossible? Nope. If the Frenchman really wanted to, he could sign one. Question is would he be willing to spend the money to get him?

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone

7) Diego Simeone

Whether it’s because his contract runs out this summer or because he is 67 years of age, it’s probably time for Arsenal’s hierarchy to start planning for life after Arsene Wenger and fans would love Diego Simeone to take over.
