Marcus Antonsson was one of Leeds United’s first summer signings, joining from Swedish side Kalmar.

The striker has earned the respect of fans with his efforts on the pitch, and has won an award for being the club’s player of the month for August, it was announced on their official website earlier today.

Antonsson scored in the EFL Cup against Fleetwood Town, but in the Championship he has found it more tough going.

He has one goal in seven games, in 496 minutes of football, with this coming in an impressive away win over Sheffield Wednesday.

That was one of Leeds only two league wins this season, and he will be hoping to retain his place in the side this weekend against Cardiff City after being selected as a starter ahead of Chris Wood against Blackburn earlier this week.

Antonsson needs to be more ruthless in front of goal, with just five of his 14 efforts landing on target. This has led to him scoring only once, although from a creative perspective he has been unlucky.

He has no assists, but has created four chances for his teammates through his endeavours, which they have not been able to take advantage of.

The goal against Wednesday took any pressure he may have been feeling away, but now he needs to start kicking on and scoring more regularly.

With only Antonsson and Chris Wood as out and out strikers in the Leeds squad, there is extra responsibility for them to step up, but the early award could be a confidence boost the Swedish forward needs.
