Tottenham went up against Leicester’s James Maddison.

The Times reported last week that Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a move for James Maddison if they have to replace Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen’s deal expires in 2020 and The Times report Spurs will not let him enter the last year of his contract without an extension, making it likely they will sell him this summer.

Maddison is valued at over £40 million according to the report.

He went about showing Spurs he would be value for money with an impressive display against them on Sunday.

Leicester pushed Tottenham all the way, with the 3-1 scoreline not reflecting how close the game was.

Maddison was a threat throughout and created seven goalscoring chances for Leicester.

This was more than the rest of Leicester’s five man midfield contributed combined (5).

No Tottenham player made more than two key passes, with the team creating nine chances in total.

Maddison, 22, still has some work to do, with getting into goalscoring positions key. He only had one shot at goal which missed the target.

He is already reportedly on Tottenham’s radar and the way he threatened their defence on Sunday makes him further impossible to ignore.

Spurs will hope they don’t need to replace Eriksen, but if they do, Maddison has become even more tempting.
