Here’s the latest news from transfer deadline day as the cut-off points draws ever closer…
One in for Rangers…
Rangers have already landed Bournemouth defender Jack Simpson on a pre-contract agreement, but now look set to sign him up immediately. Sky Sports (16:51) claim that Simpson is travelling to Glasgow to finalise a permanent deal right now, meaning Steven Gerrard could add the left-foted centre back to his ranks for the sceond half of the season.
As one prepares to leave Ibrox
As Simpson looks to sign, it seems that Brandon Barker’s time with Rangers is coming to an end. The Glasgow Evening Times report that Oxford United are attempting to push through a late deal for Barker, having ironically missed out on the signing of Rangers new boy Scott Wright. Barker has been a bit-part player for Rangers, so a move to League One may just allow him to play regularly.
Liverpool on the verge of Kabak deal
You wait weeks for a centre back signing at Liverpool and two come along at once. Preston’s Ben Davies is set to join the Reds in a shock move, and Schalke’s Ozan Kabak will follow. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool have an agreement in place to take Kabak on loan with no obligation to buy him, but a five-year contract waiting for him if he impresses, with the young Turk ready for a last-gasp move to Anfield.

Liverpool also raid Celtic
As if beating the Bhoys to Ben Davies wasn’t enough, Liverpool are now signing goalkeeper Liam Hughes from Celtic too. Goal’s Neil Jones has posted a photo of Hughes being presented as a Liverpool player, with the 19-year-old stopper set to join Liverpool’s Under-23 setup.
Newcastle expecting to seal Willock move
Steve Bruce wants a new midfielder at Newcastle tonight, and a deal for Joe Willock appears to be moving closer. The Northern Echo claim that the Newcastle hierarchy are expecting a loan deal for Willock to be done soon, but Mikel Arteta won’t allow any kind of permanent option being added to the deal, because he still sees the 21-year-ld having a huge future at Arsenal once he returns from Tyneside.
