Mbaye Diagne is ‘very close’ to signing for Watford despite dropping a huge hint about a potential switch to Nottingham Forest over the weekend, according to Le Quotidien.

In another world, Forest fans up and down the land could have been celebrating promotion to the Premier League this month after a 20-year absence from the elite.

Instead, they will be forced to wait and wonder whether the 2019/20 season can ever be completed, with the global health crisis putting the whole of English football on pause. Yet at least there was something for the City Ground faithful to get excited about over an otherwise sleepy bank holiday weekend.

Diagne’s decision to post a less-than-subtle message on Instagram certainly didn’t go unnoticed, with the exit-linked Galatasaray striker uploading a photo of himself complete with a Nottingham Forest badge.

It is certainly no coincidence that A Spor claimed late last month that the Championship promotion hopefuls were willing to pay £6 million to bring the Senegal international to England.

However, according to new reports today, there could still be a twist in a rather intriguing tale. Le Quotidien claim that Watford are on the verge of snatching Diagne from under Forest’s nose, with a striker who fired Galatasaray to the league and cup double with 31 goals last season seemingly heading to Vicarage Road instead.

Whoever said the transfer market would be quiet this summer?
