As exciting as Gabriel Martinelli is, Arsenal supporters must also be a little worried.

At 21, the Brazilian wonderkid is one of football’s most exciting young players but with a contract only until 2024, the Gunners simply must extend it as soon as possible.

And that’s why Arsenal fans might be worried because the longer it goes without an extension, the more chance there is of them losing a generational talent for peanuts.

But fortunately, the former Ituano hitman, a £6 million signing in 2019 [Goal], seems perfectly content with life at the Emirates Stadium.

And on Wednesday, he told Sky Sports that Arsenal’s hierarchy need only give him a pen, in the context of his contract.

He said: “I am very happy at Arsenal. I said it many times, I love to be here. I love the city, I love everything about Arsenal so I want to stay. Yeah, just need to get a pen.”

A lot of players have been compared to Thierry Henry since the latter left Arsenal in 2006.

But with Martinelli, there’s genuine similarities between him and the iconic Frenchman.

He might not become Arsenal’s all-time record goalscorer like Henry, but Martinelli can and does excite the supporters in the same way, getting bums off seats.

He is electrifying like the legendary Gunner and not to mention lightning quick, as Luis Diaz discovered when Liverpool visited the Emirates Stadium last month.

That’s why Arsenal sincerely need to extend his contract as soon as possible because it would be a travesty if they lose him for below market value and he winds up emulating Thierry Henry at another club.
