Spanish club Osasuna have confirmed the transfer of Newcastle United striker Emmanuel Riviere.

The French striker will be joining the club on loan for the 2016-17 season after completing a medical with the club in Spain yesterday.

It brings to an end, at least temporarily, to Riviere’s unpopular stay at St James’ Park.

Osasuna were first linked with a move for the player ten days ago.

It was reported by Noticias de Navarra that the Frenchman had been on the list of wanted players at the club for some time now and that his representatives are known to the Osasuna hierarchy.

Riviere was clearly not in the first-team plans of Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United and will now be looking for some regular first-team football.

Signed from Monaco, for a fee reported by the Daily Mail to be in the region of £6 million, in July 2014 the striker played just three times for the club last season and is clearly not on the mind of Benitez – playing no minutes so far this term.

He will be hoping to revive his career in Spain.
