Celtic’s official Twitter account has seemingly poked fun at Charlie Nicholas after he took aim at the club’s transfer business.

The former Celtic player said that Neil Lennon will be feeling ‘annoyed’ and will also be putting on a brave face, adding that the ex-Bolton boss wouldn’t have received anything near what he’d have hoped for in the window.

He told The Express (via The Daily Record): ‘I’d imagine he’ll be pretty annoyed this morning. I am sure he will put on a brave face but I don’t think he will have got anything close to what he was looking for.’

In response to those comments, Celtic’s official Twitter account posted a tweet welcoming their six summer signings using Nicholas’ now famous, and repetitive, saying.

Throughout years as a pundit on Soccer Saturday, the Scot began many a point with the phrase ‘and I’m sitting here thinking’ – so much so that their official YouTube account created a compilation of it.

Celtic’s tweet reads: ‘Just sitting there thinking… what a window! Another warm welcome to all the new Bhoys!’

The Scottish champions welcomed Uruguay international Diego Laxalt to Celtic Park on deadline day, and also added David Turnbull, Shane Duffy, Albian Ajeti, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Vasilis Barkas to their squad.

In our view, that represents an excellent window in a COVID-hit market.

Lennon himself also responded to Nicholas’ comments in feisty fashion, saying that the pundit would still find something negative to say even if Celtic signed Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Daily Record quote him as saying: ‘If we had signed Messi and Ronaldo, Charlie still would have found fault with it. He’s been negative about the club for years.

‘We switch off to it.’

Celtic’s tweet on the matter was a creative, harmless way of making light of the situation, and it definitely made for entertaining reading.
