Luis Alberto was one very happy camper last night – as his beloved Sevilla defeated rivals Real Betis in the Europa League.
Tottenham Hotspur might have fell short in their attempt at a miraculous Europa League comeback – but Spanish outfit Sevilla didn’t.
They lost the first-leg of the Seville derby 2-0 at home – leaving them with a mountain to climb against La Liga’s basement club.
But they pulled it off – winning 2-0 in normal time before coming through penalties 4-3.
For Real Betis fans it was another huge setback after what has been a dreadful season – the Europa Leage was the only shining light left, and their fierce rivals have now taken it from them.
But for Sevilla fans there was jubilation – including from one Liverpool player.
Luis Alberto spent last season on loan at Barcelona B from the Sanchez Pizjuan and impressed sufficiently to earn himself a £6.8 million move to Liverpool this summer.
His time at Anfield has, so far, been slightly disappointing – as he finds first-team opportunities limited.
But last night he shared his good mood with the people of Twitter after his boyhood club pulled off a memorable derby win at the most crucial of times.
Liverpool fans will be hoping he posts a similar Tweet come May – with The Reds the topic.
