A former Arsenal coach recommended an enormous player to his old side this week.
Granted that he’s far more enormous in terms of size than name, but Wout Weghorst remains a player on the rise in terms of profile all the same.
Andries Joncker quit his role as Arsenal’s academy director to become head coach at Wolfsburg in 2017 until 2019.
And the Dutchman said this week that the Gunners could do with the 6’6 striker [Sportbuzzer] – and you can see why.
Weghorst was on target again last night, scoring twice as Wolfsburg beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 in the Bundesliga.
The 28-year-old marksman equalised from the penalty spot in the final quarter, before snatching an 88th-minute winner.
In doing so, Weghorst now has nine goals in 11 league games this season, which is more than Eddie Nketiah, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have combined in the Premier League since September [6].
Mikel Arteta desperately needs goals if 15th-placed Arsenal are going to enjoy a successful second half of the campaign.
And maybe – just maybe – if Weghorst maintains his red-hot form until January, they might act on Joncker’s recommendation.
