Tottenham Hotspur powerhouse Kion Etete had a mixed first experience of senior football this season.
The Lilywhites loaned the towering forward to Northampton Town in League One during the first half of the campaign.
However, three goals in 15 League Two starts illustrates that it wasn’t exactly a prolific experience for the big man, although he wasn’t always being utilised as a central striker.
That being said, the Cobblers were interested in keeping him beyond January, but Tottenham recalled Etete who now looks set to test himself in League One.
That’s because Cheltenham Town manager Michael Duff has confirmed to Gloucester Live that he has signed the Lilywhites’ academy product who, according to The Sun, stands at 6’6.
He told Gloucester Live: “We have Kion Etete done. We like him and we’ve known about him for a while. He’s gone to Northampton and done well. We have monitored his progress since he’s been out.”
Gamble
There is an element of risk on Tottenham’s behalf.
If his goalscoring record was only mediocre in League Two then, logically, six months in League One could wreck his confidence if things don’t go smoothly.
On the other hand, Tottenham might feel Cheltenham is a better fit for the big marksman and hope that he adjusts to the step-up in class.
There’s no doubt that Etete is a major talent and with his physical attributes can cause opposition defences a myriad of problems.
