It looks like one former Liverpool player is a big fan of the player who Jurgen Klopp is reportedly trying to bring to Anfield.
Tuttomercatoweb reported this month that the Reds were trying to sign Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
And according to French outlet Foot Mercato, the player is up for a stint in the Premier League, having been linked to Liverpool as well as Newcastle United.
Pepe Reina, who spent nine years on the books at Anfield, knows a thing or two about the 28-year-old powerhouse, after playing alongside him in Naples for three years.
And the Spanish goalkeeper has described Koulibaly as ‘extraordinary’.
He told Tuttomercatoweb when asked about the defenders he has played behind during his career: “In a moment, Koulibaly was something extraordinary. Difficult to choose, there have been many strong defenders. In recent years, the Koulibaly-Albiol partnership was phenomenal when they played.”
Koulibaly, who stands at 6’4, is one hell of a physical presence, but he can also defend.
Liverpool fans can testify to that after seeing him up close in the Champions League earlier this season, and the prospect of him playing alongside Virgil van Dijk at centre-back next season is ridiculous, in a good way.
